Tips for IELTS writing section

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone had a good time over the weekends. This week we will dedicate our blog sessions to IELTS writing techniques.

For those of you who are going to take the IELTS exam in the near future, writing is a pretty important section of your total exam. So you need to prepare well for the writing section.

Here are some common mistakes made by the examiners:

1.    Great ideas will lead to more marks. – Unfortunately in most cases it won’t because the tutors/ assistants who check your exam papers are squeezed for time. They neither have the time nor the tenacity to look for and award revolutionary thinkers. All they are looking for are good logic to back up your essay. So if you have a revolutionary idea about how to overcome social injustice in Bangladesh, IELTS writing exam is not the right platform to share those ideas.

2.    Extremely difficult words will get me more marks – No it won’t! words should be used in a way that reflects your skills in diction. Diction: Choice of use of words in speech or writing

3.    A verbose piece would give the impression that I have a good vocabulary. – Maybe, but it will also show your poor word selection capacity. Usually, using too many words, using too many adjectives destroys a prose rather than enhance it.
